One of the great things about the iPhone is that it is like having a newspaper in your pocket. In my case, I check the NY Times usually once a day, just to get a flavor for whats going on in the world. As such, I have the NY Times iPhone application on my phone.
It provides a pretty awesome reading experience, in my view, giving me the top news and thumbnails in a nice layout, all presented in the well worn style of the Times. And so you’d think I’d be happy. But I’m not- I’m sad. And it all comes back to performance. I’m sitting here on the GC wifi network, and it takes something like 8-10 seconds for the NY Times app to open and the new stories to be downloaded so I can read them. In contrast, It takes about 3 seconds for the ESPN.com homepage to open in the Safari browser. And what a difference 5 seconds makes.
Anyone else seeing such crappy performance?
